Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon C Specs for Budget Laptops Targeting Intel N250 Rivals

According to Tom's Hardware, Qualcomm has disclosed the first detailed specifications and battery-only benchmarks for its entry-tier Snapdragon C platform, positioning the ARM-based SoC against Intel's N250 in sub-$300 notebooks. The data, corroborated by Wccftech, covers frequencies, cache, memory tiers, and I/O, but leaves plugged-in AC performance unaddressed and defers concrete battery-hour figures to OEM partners.

Core silicon

The Snapdragon C pairs an 8-core Qualcomm Kryo CPU with 2 MB of total cache. Maximum frequencies are listed at 3.0 GHz single-core and 2.0 GHz multi-core; Qualcomm's fine print also notes a 3-core configuration at 2.6 GHz. Fabrication is a 6nm process. Graphics run through an Adreno A643 GPU at a 900 MHz max clock, paired with a Hexagon-class NPU whose TOPS rating Qualcomm has not published.

Display output covers eDP 1.4 with internal panels up to FHD+ at 120 Hz, and external DisplayPort 1.4 pushing 4K at 60 Hz. Video decode reaches 4K60 across AVC, HEVC, and VP9; encode tops out at 4K30. Memory support spans LPDDR4x, LPDDR5, and LPDDR5x at up to 16 GB on a 32-bit single-channel bus. Throughput hits 25.6 GB/s on LP5/LP5x and 16.8 GB/s on LP4x. Storage covers a single PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD, UFS 3.1 or 2.2, and SDCC. Wireless is handled by a C6700 controller (Wi-Fi 6/6E, Bluetooth 6.0). Native I/O includes two USB 3.1 Type-C ports and two USB 3.1 Type-A ports, plus three PCIe Gen 3.0 lanes.

The comparison set

Qualcomm's test bed is a 16-inch reference design with 8 GB of RAM. The rival system is an Acer TravelMate running the Intel N250 (Twin Lake, E-cores only) with an 11.6-inch display, reconfigured to match the reference unit's total power draw against a 16-inch screen.

On battery, the Snapdragon C posts up to 67% higher multi-threaded Cinebench and up to 2.1x power efficiency over the N250. Single-threaded deltas: 44% in Geekbench, 50% in Cinebench. Multi-threaded: 24% in Geekbench. Speedometer 3.1 lands at 39% faster. Battery-life efficiency gains versus the N250, per Qualcomm's measurements: 106% on Netflix playback, 68% on web browsing, 74% on a Teams video call.

Qualcomm has not released any benchmarks for AC/plugged-in operation. The company also declines to commit to a specific hour count, citing OEM panel variation, although the slide deck frames the platform as "all-day."

What to watch

Qualcomm names HP, Acer, Asus, and Lenovo as launch partners. Acer has publicly shown the Aspire Go 15 with 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage; pricing and ship date have not been disclosed. Launch timing aligns with IFA Berlin or CES. The stated $300 floor now faces component-cost pressure, particularly on memory. Third-party testing is required before a verdict: the E-core-only N250 baseline favors Qualcomm's narrative, and sustained thermal behavior under load — absent from the slide deck — will determine real-world throughput once these laptops plug into the wall.
