Per CNET's first-look coverage, Sennheiser's fifth-generation Momentum True Wireless earbuds arrive at $300 with a revised adaptive hybrid ANC system, a three-microphone array per bud, and Bluetooth 6.0. The hardware revisions target the two performance areas where prior generations trailed Apple, Bose, and Sony: noise cancellation and voice-call clarity. Hardware and Acoustic Stack
New hardware includes three microphones per earbud, two bone-conduction voice accelerometers, and replaceable cells in both buds and case. The case supports wireless charging. Sennheiser pairs the new adaptive hybrid ANC with an automatic anti-wind mode and an AI speech-extraction algorithm intended to isolate the caller's voice in noisy environments. The company states the redesigned eartips and a dedicated four-microphone array target maximum noise-canceling attenuation alongside the most natural-sounding real-time transparency mode in the series. Spec-for-spec, the Momentum True Wireless 5 addresses documented weak points: ANC attenuation, call clarity, and battery serviceability. The on-paper ANC-on battery regression and the 0.8-gram weight gain are the only quantified downsides against the prior generation. Benchmark testing should measure adaptive ANC attenuation across frequency bands, passive isolation from the redesigned eartips, wind handling with anti-wind mode engaged, and voice-call clarity under crowd and traffic noise. Hold the preorder until those numbers land. Commit the $300 if Sennheiser's claims hold against current flagships from Apple, Bose, Sony, and Samsung.
