Apple Reportedly Planning October Launch for OLED iPad Mini

That puts a hard stop sign in front of anyone considering the current model at its $599 starting price. The next mini may be the first meaningful display-led refresh in this line for years, but the price direction is the real issue.

The $599 starting point is already inflated

The current iPad mini starts at $599, after Apple raised prices across much of its lineup. Before that increase, the starting price was $499. That is a $100 higher price floor before an OLED panel enters the equation.

Bloomberg’s reported timeline says the new device, codenamed J510, could be unveiled as early as fall and released by October. The same report warns that OLED could push the iPad mini’s price higher still. No MSRP has been reported. That matters: waiting is sensible if you want the new screen, but it does not guarantee a better deal.

For buyers who need a compact iPad now, the old $499 reference point should remain the benchmark. At $599, the current model is not automatically bad hardware. It is simply harder to defend with a reported replacement so close.

Do not price in unconfirmed specs

The OLED screen is the central claim in the report. Everything beyond that needs restraint. A separate Weibo leak cited by 9to5Mac claims the new iPad mini would keep a fixed 60Hz refresh rate and omit ProMotion, but that detail is not part of Bloomberg’s reporting.

In plain retail terms: do not pay a premium today on the assumption that the October model will check every “Pro” box. Apple has not announced the device, its configuration, or its price. The screen upgrade may be substantial; the rest of the specification sheet remains a foggy invoice.

The broader iPad schedule is also taking shape. Bloomberg reportedly expects a new entry-level iPad as early as the first calendar quarter next year, primarily with a faster processor rather than a major redesign. New 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Air models are on target for spring, while new iPad Pro models are also reportedly planned around that period. Apple is additionally expected to update Apple Pencil models next year, potentially with replaceable batteries.

The practical buying window

If a small iPad is optional, wait until October. Apple’s reported schedule makes buying the current mini at full $599 MSRP a poor timing decision, especially if retailers begin clearing inventory before the new model arrives.

If the current mini drops materially below that $599 floor, the calculation changes. You would be buying a known device at a discount rather than funding Apple’s latest markup. But do not confuse a small markdown with value: a replacement reportedly due by October sets the clock.
