Samsung Raises Foldable Smartphone Prices Ahead of Anticipated Apple Competition

Techloy reports that the range includes a Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, a redesigned standard Fold, and a refreshed Flip. The immediate buying signal is not the branding. It is the higher entry cost against still-unverified retail performance.

The Fold 8 Ultra carries the hardware load

Techloy lists the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra with an 8-inch folding display, a 6.5-inch outer display, a 4.1mm unfolded chassis and a 215g weight. Samsung is also said to have fitted a 5,000mAh battery despite the thinner body.

The reported processor is Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy. Camera hardware includes a 200MP main module, 50MP ultrawide, 10MP telephoto and two 10MP selfie cameras. Samsung says a Flex Titanium hinge reduces the display crease.

These are specification claims, not benchmark results. There is no verified data here on sustained performance, thermal throttling, battery drain, panel brightness, hinge resistance or camera output. Those measurements determine whether the thinner enclosure is an engineering gain or a spec-sheet trade-off.

The price increase changes the comparison set

Techloy puts the Fold 8 Ultra starting price at $2,099.99. CNBC’s headline separately confirms that Samsung has increased prices with this foldable launch.

At that level, the purchase case must be evaluated against a conventional flagship phone plus a separate tablet or laptop, rather than against another handset alone. A larger inner panel and a thinner folded device are relevant only if the software and thermal envelope hold up under extended multitasking.

The reported lineup also extends beyond phones: Techloy says Samsung announced AI-powered smart glasses built with Google. ET Now’s event coverage identifies the Galaxy Watch 9 among the major announcements. Neither report supplies enough detail to assess battery life, compatibility, sensor behavior or price positioning for those products.

What remains unverified

The available material establishes the launch, the Ultra model’s listed hardware, and a higher Samsung pricing posture. It does not establish regional pricing, storage configurations, availability, repair terms or trade-in values. It also does not provide comparative testing against prior Galaxy folds or competing devices.

That gap matters more than the new “Ultra” label. Buyers should wait for measured battery drain, thermals, crease visibility and display durability before treating the Fold 8 Ultra’s dimensions as a reason to upgrade.
